Karisalankanni is a small plant classified as Blue, Yellow, Red and White based on its flower colour. Karisalankanni White grows all over india in all climate conditions. Now Yellow Karisalankanni also become famous because of its medicinal values. Other two varieties can be found only in Hill Stations. Karisalankanni White along with Yellow are dried well, ground into very fine powder and then filtered to make it free from unground particles. It is being used by our people since ancient days.

Karisalankanni is also called as Karappan, Karisalai, Kaiyanthakarai in Tamil, False Daisy in English, Bhringaraj or Bungara in Hindi, Kanjunni in Malayalam, Kadige karage or Ajakara in Kannada, Galakara in Telugu. Its Botanical Name is Eclipta Prostata.
