Naval is a big tree grows in all climate conditions of India. Naval Kottai collected from those tree fruits dried well, removed its shell, and the kernels are ground into very fine powder and then filtered to make it free from unground particles. It is being used by our ancestors to make Siddha and Ayurveda medicines since ancient days. 

Raw Naval Seeds can have their dried fruit flesh or skin. When the shells are removed, it will be having only the essential kernels and those are pure and they fulfill the purpose of preparing Naval Kottai Powder.

Naval Seeds are called as Black Plum in English, Jamun or Jambul in Hindi, Neradu Chettu in Telugu, Perinneral in Malayalam, Nerale in Kannada. Its Botanical Name is Eugenia Jumbolana.
