Mahilam is a big tree grows in all climate conditions and in all over India. Mahilam usually flowers during June to September. Mahilampoo also called as Magilam Flowers are superb in their fragrance. These flowers are collected, dried well, and ground into very fine powder. It is then filtered to make it free from unground particles. These flowers as raw material and also as in powder form are being used by our ancestors since ancient days.
It is called as Mahilam in Tamil, Spanish Cherry in English, Maulsari in Hindi, Pogada Chettu in Telugu, Elengi in Malayalam, Ranja in Kannada, Bakuli in Marathi, Bakul in Gujarathi. Its Botanical Name is Mimusops Elengi.
