Kodiveli also called as Lead wort in English is a creeper plant grows all over India, especially in western ghats. It is classified into three as Black, Red, and White based on its colour. Red Leadwort roots are collected, dried well, ground into very fine powder. It is then filtered to make it free from unground particles. It is being used by our ancestors since ancient days.

It is also called as Chithiramoolam, Chenkodiveli in Tamil. It is called as Red Lead wort in English, Chitrak or Chatawar in Hindi, Chithramoolam or Agnimataa in Telugu, Agnipaavaka or Bilay in Kannada, Koduveli in Malayalam. Its Botanical Name is Plumbago Zeylanic.
