Devadaru or Devatharu is a big tree growing only in Himalays naturally and also cultivated in recent years in other places of India. Its stems and barks are having a good odour even for many days after it is cut or powdered.
These Devadaru stems are cut into smaller pieces, and ground into powder. As it is a strong wood, it is very risky to powder it, so the powder we are preparing is not so fine. It is being used as a herbal ingredient and also as a pooja samagiri. Our Devadaru Powder is suitable to be a pooja samagiri.
It is called in English as Himalayan Cedar, Deodar in Hindi, Devadaru in Telugu, Devatharam in Malayalam, Devadari in Kannada. Irutharu, Tharam, Pathra Tharikam, Sura Maram are the other names of Devatharu in Tamil. Its Botanical Name is Cetrus Deodara.
Devadaru wood cut into small chips are mostly used as a Pooja Samagiri while doing Homam. It can also be used to remove bad smell in our house. As it is having high oil content in its stems, those chips are easily flammable among the Pooja Samagiri.
